Monday, June 14, 2011 is the last day to register for the High Tunnel Construction and Production workshop in Hope. The AR SARE PDP can pay for Arkansas Extension agents’ travel and registration expenses.  More and more growers are becoming interested in high tunnels because it provides a tremendous amount of opportunity for growers to extend the season, increase fruit/vegetable quality and increase their income.  NRCS also has a role in the growth of high tunnels in the US. As part of the Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food initiative, NRCS has a cost-sharing program to help producers put high tunnels into action their farms. This information packed day will have speakers from the UA, Mississippi State University, NRCS and a grower talking about construction, production and economics of high tunnel production.

This workshop is open to agriculture professionals and growers so please share this information. To register contact Heather Friedrich at or 479-575-2798.

And, there will be another workshop on blackberry production the following week at the Clarksville research station on June 23. To register for this workshop, contact Katie Hanshaw at 479-754-2406 or The registration deadline is June 20, 2011.
